The Break Even (or Better) Event Toolkit

Your last event didn’t pay off.
Let’s give the next one a better starting point.

You put so much into it, and now you’re wondering whether to try again. I’d start with a different question: who could you do this with? Big brands can spend a fortune getting people’s attention. You don’t need that budget. You need an idea that gives people a reason to come, and a local business that makes it better.

Let’s talk about the costs

Built to break even before it’s built to sell.

Before you book anything, you work out how the event’s hard costs will be covered: through ticket revenue or a cost split agreed with your partner. That’s the starting point for every event this toolkit helps you plan, not something you hope to figure out on the night.

Then product sales, new email subscribers, photos, and people telling their friends are what you gain on top. You’re not relying on sales to pay for the evening. You confirm the cost coverage before you commit.

A little context

Two businesses.
One shared experience.

The Unexpected Studio is an experiential marketing studio founded by Ariana Price. We use the word “activation” for an in-person event where people get to try what two businesses offer through one shared activity.

The pairings I’m interested in aren’t always the obvious ones. Think about where your business fits into someone’s day, then look for another business that belongs in that same moment. That connection matters more than either of your budgets.

You both invite your customers, and both businesses have a real part in what guests do. The activity needs what each of you brings. Take one business away, and it’s a different event.

This is different from setting up a table in someone else’s space or putting your logo on their event. You’re making something together.

You might sell skincare, teach a class, make home goods, or run a family-focused business. Products and services both belong here. What matters is finding an activity your customers would actually want to take part in.

Think about your customers

Where do you fit into their day?

This could work well for you if:

  • Your customers care about your business, not just the thing they buy.
  • People come back, or recommend you to their friends.
  • You can picture a real moment when someone uses your product or enjoys your service.

Getting ready for bed. Winding down after a workout. Those everyday moments give you something to plan an event around.

Probably not a fit if:

  • Your customers choose mainly by price or product specifications.
  • People buy once, with little reason to stay in touch.

This works best when people have a reason to choose you beyond being the cheapest option.

Scent & Stone

A fine jewelry brand and an independent perfumery built an evening where every scent decision came with a jewelry decision too.

As each fragrance is introduced, the perfumer asks: what earrings match this? Once a scent is chosen, the next prompt follows: now the necklace. By the end of the evening, every guest has built a full look, a scent and three pieces of jewelry, not just a bottle. The jewelry brand gets their full collection on real women in a real moment. The perfumer gets a fully booked private evening instead of an open calendar night.

How it runs

  1. 01

The jewelry brand sends their collection a few weeks out. The perfumer wears what she genuinely loves and helps design three prompts: earrings, necklace, bracelet.

  2. 02

Tickets split evenly between both businesses, so both are motivated to fill the room.

  3. 03

Photograph each prompt: a testing strip next to an earring, a necklace held against a wrist mid-scent. That becomes the format for future events.

How it works

Let’s get you from an idea
to a conversation.

01 /

Find a local business that fits

Start with the Pairing and Pitch Generator. Its two tests help you find a local business whose customers and offering connect with yours, even if the pairing isn’t obvious.

02 /

Know what to say

You’ll get a specific type of partner to look for and a ready-to-send pitch, so you’re not staring at a blank message wondering how to ask.

03 /

Keep things moving

Check the partnership with the Partner-Fit Scorecard, keep track of who you’ve contacted, and use the scripts when it’s time to follow up. After the event, the Post-Event Scorecard helps you decide what’s worth doing again.

Before you get started

A few good questions.

Do I need to have a partner already?

No. That’s where the Pairing and Pitch Generator comes in. It helps you figure out what kind of local business to approach and gives you a pitch to send.

Is this for a business like mine?

You might sell products, offer a service, run market stalls, or sell online. What matters is that customers have a reason to care about your business, and you can picture a moment in their lives where what you offer belongs.

Is the idea library the main product?

No. The Pairing and Pitch Generator and Activation Toolkit help you find your own partner and plan the event. The Inspiration Vault is an extra: 32 ideas you can learn from.

Will this guarantee my next event makes money?

No toolkit can promise that. This one starts with covering your hard costs through ticket revenue or an agreed partner cost split, before you commit. Product sales, new email subscribers, and content are gains on top, not the plan for paying the bills.

Is this a subscription?

No. The Break Even (or Better) Event Toolkit is a one-time $49 purchase. The optional Pairing Room is a separate, one-time lifetime fee.

How will I get the Bundle?

Right after payment, on your confirmation page. No account, no waiting.

What is the refund policy?

A provisional 7-day refund window is planned. The final policy will be confirmed before sales open. See the Terms of Service for details.
